Survey: impact on quality of life in splenectomized patients

ABSTRACT
Background: Laparoscopic splenectomy is an important resource in the treatment of many diseases. The therapeutic role has been established especially for those diseases in which the hematological spleen produces a destructive effect of circulating blood cells, leading to anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, or a combination of both. Methods: Retrospective analysis of December 2008 to February 2010 patients undergoing laparoscopic splenectomy was analyzed by direct interview and medical record the impact on quality of life after surgery. Results: We performed telephone or personal interview to 29 patients by the SF-36 questionnaire validated and found that 7 (29.1%) reported excellent results, 9 (12.5%) very good and 5 (20.1%) good in postoperative in 12 -30 months of follow up. Conclusions: Laparoscopic splenectomy due care is a process that impacts directly on the quality of life of patients, directly improving their performance in activities of daily living.REFERENCES
