ABSTRACT

Atypical proliferative (borderline) endometrioid tumors and well-differentiated endometrioid carcinomas of the ovary constitute a spectrum of morphologically diverse proliferative tumors. There is currently no agreement on the criteria for distinguishing them. The primary surgical treatment of borderline tumors has followed the guidelines for invasive carcinoma, including total abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, omentectomy, and peritoneal washing. Adjuvant treatment in borderline tumors is questionable. A 18 year female patient is reported who presented a gigantic abdominal mass that resulted as a borderline ovarian tumor, she was treated surgically and childbearing was preserved by an unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.
