ABSTRACT

Treatment by means of microfractures of knee condral injuries IV degree. Objective. Analysis of the functional clinical results in patients with cartilage defects in the knee treated arthroscopically with microfracture. Material and methods. A descriptive, longitudinal and prospective study in a group of 17 patients of both genders; it was 19 knees with chondral lesions grade IV according to Outerbridge scale treated with the microfracture technique. The functional results were measured with the WOMAC and Lysholm scales at 9 and 12 weeks. Statistical Survey with t-Student and p ‹ 0.05. Results. Ten of the 17 patients were women (age 48.7 ± 3.6) and 7 were men (age 34.7 ± 9.6). WOMAC and Lysholm questionnaires were used at 9 and 12 weeks. The answers of WOMAC questionnaire (qualitative) was converted into quantitative form (numeral form) for evaluation. The results obtained by these 3 methods at 9 and 12 weeks are: WOMAC 9 weeks (87.1 ± 15.0) and 12 weeks (98.5 ± 12.0) (rho = 0.69 p ‹ 0.001). Lysholm 9 weeks (71.4 ± 13.2) and 12 weeks (75.2 ± 10.3) (rho = 0.35). Numeral 9 weeks (3.6 ± 1.0) 12 weeks and (4.1 ± 0.7) (rho = 0.707) Conclusions. Microfracture technique and in patients was favorable and it was verified by WOMAC scale and in numeral way; nevertheless, a long-time follow up is needed. Not thus with the Lysholm qualification scale which can be due to confusion by its entailment with the sport activity.
