ABSTRACT

Objective: to evaluate clinically and radiographically the presence of developmental groove and its direction, depth, shape and association withpulpal disease and / or periodontal and determine its prevalence. Hypothesis: "if the developmental groove is a predisposing factor for the retention of plaque, then those patients who manifest, have diseases such as caries, pulpal disease and / or periodontal." Material and methods: the type of study for the realization of this study was observational. Furthermore, the type of targets that were handled, were classified as Descriptive-transverse. Results: the prevalence of subjects with developmental groove was 18.42%. The sum of the upper anterior teeth of 152 subjects examined yielded a total of 912 teeth, of which 49 teeth showed developmental groove. It was determined that the prevalence of teeth with developmental groove was 5.37%. Of the teeth examined developmental groove were: 13 teeth with caries lesion, 5teeth with periodontitis and no tooth pulp injury. Conclusion: this anomaly is a predisposing factor for caries, periodontal disease and pulp disease, this conclusion is based on positive evidence of correlation of Pearson.
