University extension and the Medical University in Pinar del Rio

ABSTRACT

The Medical University in Pinar del Rio under the lead of the department of General Direction of Educational Work, manages the University Extension as a formative, comprehensive and systemic p rocess based on the cultural interaction of the university with the daily task, having permanent and bidirectional communication with the society, where the university and the community are included; which is directed at social transformation and responds to concrete needs in a given moment; having at the same time proper objectives and contents that are carried out through different methods, means, adequate resources and mechanism of planning together with systemic assessment to its improving. It is precis ely, the social role of the medical university in Pinar del Rio, one of the most debated themes in contemporaneous university, a topic about the philosophers, educators, politicians and academicians have expressed their view points, which is not made by chance, considering the importance of university -society relationship in order to achieve a harmonic development. The social mission goes beyond the simple formation of professional executives who require a high -level to the society; as well as the teaching process, scientific research and postgraduate education, the diffusion of culture and the extension of these services to the whole people. The university is one of the most important sceneries in the battle of achieving a comprehensive culture. A literatur e review was carried out to describe the educational and methodological work at the Medical University in Pinar del Rio together with its activities of extension.
