Problems involved in wheezy rattle in children under five years

ABSTRACT
Objective: To enhance the most frequent difficulties in the handling of children smaller than five years with wheeze.Material and methods: In the period between January and December of 2012 were studied 54 children smaller than five years that admitted in the hospital with wheeze.
Results: Of these 37 (68.5%) they had their first wheeze before the 3 years, 38 (70.4%) children had less than 3 episodes and in 32 (59.3%) it was as a consequence of respiratory infections. The 54 children were assisted by a pediatrician who prescribed antihistamines at 29 (53.7%) of them and vitamin C at 21 (38.9%); 25 (46.3%) of the children they were also assisted by an allergist who prescribed antihistamines in all, at 18 (72%) suggested them a restrictive diet, 16 (64%) they received inhaled steroids and at 11 (44%) they were applied bovine. Eleven (20.4%) of the children they were assisted by an immunologist and to all it indicated them vitamin C, at 6 (54.5%) levamisol, at 5 (45.4%) they were treated with gamma-globulin and at 4 (36.4%) they were applied the transfer factor; the relatives’ 88.9% said that they ignored the wheeze.
Conclusions: This study enhances the scarce knowledge about the characteristics and clinical meaning of the wheeze in the children and its correct handling.
