ABSTRACT

Asthma is a chronic, complex and multifactorial disease of the airways, resulting in hyperresponsiveness, leading to symptoms of wheezing, cough, shortness of breath, among others. In some percentage of asthmatic patients, control is not achieved despite the use of high doses of inhaled corticosteroids in combination with other treatments. In these cases of severe/refractory asthma new therapies and strategies have emerged as an option for the management of these patients.
