ABSTRACT
Acute diarrheal disease is usually probably multifactorial and the use of antiemetic drugs and antispasmodics for treatment has been a controversial topic and not recommended. We reviewed 49 prescriptions written by doctors in private consultation to children below the age of 10 years, who were studying EDA. It was found that metoclopramide was the most used in them, followed by the butilhioscina, difenidol, butilshioscina-metamizol, and meclizine; three of these children were hospitalized because of intoxication to metoclopramide. Oral hydration, to demand free was prescribed to 11 of them (22 %). In this study was particularly notorious the high frequency of prescriptions of antiemetics and antispasmodics and contrasts the low prescription oral rehydration, so that it is desirable to have more training in the first level of medical care.
