ABSTRACT

The concept of Mestizo Nose, introduced by Ortiz-Monasterio, refers to special ethnical and anatomic characteristics found in non-caucasian origin patients in Latin America. Such a nose has thick skin, poor tip support and projection, high dorsum, and a strong osteocartilaginous hump. On the other hand, open tip rhinoplasty, conceived originally for secondary and post-traumatic rhinoplasty, is a popular approach for primary aesthetic procedures nowadays, given precise access to the cartilaginous structures of the tip, and the supratip area. Based upon the cases discussed here, open tip rhinoplasty should be considered as a surgical option for mestizo nose, with possible applications in other non-caucasian groups as well.
