ABSTRACT

Introduction: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors are the most common mesenquimal neoplasia of the gastrointestinal system. They affect the stomach in 40 to 60% of the cases. They cause vague symptoms difficulting diagnosis. Gastrointestinal bleeding is one of them and it can be acute and severe. Laparoscopic resection of gastrointestinal stromal tumors is a good option with benefits for patients. Objective: To present three cases of patients with gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors operated by our surgical team with a clinical history of gastrointestinal hemorrhage resected by laparoscopy and their follow-up. Material and methods: Three patients with clinical history of gastrointestinal hemorrhage and gastrointestinal stromal tumors resected by laparoscopy. Results: Three male patients of the seventh decade of life, with gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors confirmed by histopathology with sizes of 6.7 to 10 cm postoperative evolution of the three patients was favorable without complications. Their follow-up was between 12 months and 10 years without recurrence until now. Conclusion: Laparoscopic resection of gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors is an option with the known results of laparoscopic procedures; however more studies are needed to confirm its security.
