His surgical interests included almost all surgical fields: extremities, urology, gynecology, thoracic surgery and goiter. He was also the first surgeon to perform an adrenalectomy for a pheocromocitoma. César Roux main interest was abdominal surgery. His greatest contribution to surgery was “L’anse in and selon Roux” or Roux en Y anastomosis. In addition, he performed unthinkable procedures for that time like esophago-yeyunoanastomosis. Honest and diligent in the interpretation of its results, he obtained great notoriety in Europe during the first part of twentieth century. He was awarded doctor honoris causa, was also a member of diverse surgical societies and recognized by the French Legion of Honor. Man of small stature with dense moustache and penetrating gray eyes, he enjoyed good sense of humor. He was a swiftly and smooth surgeon without abruptness. His sudden death in 1934 was reason for national mourning in Switzerland.
