ABSTRACT

Ocular toxoplasmosis may manifest as a retinitis or posterior uveitis (most common), papillitis or scleritis. The uvea is the vascular layer of the eye, and is formed by the iris, the ciliary body and the choroid membrane. Uveitis is defined as an inflammation of the uveal tract, but this term is also used to describe an inflammation of not only the uvea, but also on the retina and its blood vessels. Uveitis may be anatomically classified as anterior (iris, ciliary body pars plicata), intermediate (pars plana of the ciliary body, vitreous, peripheral retina), posterior (retinitis, coroiditis, vasculitis ), and panuveitis.
