ABSTRACT

Leishmaniasis is a polymorphous disease of the skin and mucous membranes that occurs in tropical regions of the world, it is caused by several species of protozoos of the genus Leishmania and is transmitted by the sting of female mosquito of the genus Lutzomyia. Among the clinical forms of the disease the cutaneous form, mucocutaneous and the visceral one, the clinical and epidemiological elements are of great value for diagnosis and they are supported by paraclinical studies (parasitological and immunological tests) and the resolution of the disease may occur after systemic treatment. A Bolivian patient of 11 years with a skin lesion consistent with cutaneous leishmaniasis, which is an irregularity for the Cuban doctors, but not when they are immersed in the morbidity of a country risk is presented.
