Nodular fasciitis of parotid region. A case report

ABSTRACT

Nodular fasciitis is a reactive proliferation of fibro and myofibroblasts in soft tissue, frequently confused with sarcoma both clinically and histologically. Albeit it has a benign behavior, the cause of this proliferation remains unknown. Here we present the case of a 20-year old female patient, who underwent superficial and deep parotidectomy, resection of the sternocleidomastoid muscle and partial resection of the trapezius. The histopathological report was: product of a left parotidectomy with tumorectomy and nodular conglomerate dissection, along with nodular fasciitis showing an intermediate growth pattern infiltrating muscular tissue. We analize the main clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic aspects of this uncommon lesion based on literature.
