ABSTRACT

The patient’s advanced directives its foundamental in Intensive Care Units (ICU), where there are the necessary human and technologic resources to attend seriously ill patients, in whom annoying and sometimes dangerous diagnostic as well as bothering therapeutic procedures are applied. We review the patients’ advanced will declaration is done to admission or to leave from the ICU in order to restrict specific procedures, avoiding cruelty therapy and to withdraw vital support, with patients´ autonomy and self respect.
