Arnold-Chiari malformation: clinical case presentation

ABSTRACT

Arnold Chiari malformation is a caudal displacement of nervous structures of the posterior fossa (cerebellum, pons and medulla oblongata), that tends to displace itself via the foramen magnum into the interior spinal canal. It accompanies other different nervous system development malformations, essentially, neural tube closure defects and osteomyoarticular system alterations at the level of cranial cervical union and the spine in general. The described case is of a late diagnosis Arnold Chiari type I tributary from a surgical treatment. Key words: Chiari malformation, cerebelar amygdala herniation, posterior fossa.
