ABSTRACT

The study plan serving as foundation for the current training of the Bachelor in Nutrition has accumulated 8 years since its drafting, and it was based on plans elaborated for the Dietetics and Nutrition profile of the University Degree on Health Technologies. In spite of its effectiveness and impact, curricular design of this study plan needs to be improved in keeping with the methodology oriented by the Ministry for Higher Education for the “D” generation of such plans. Selection of contents to include in the updated study plan should guarantee the content of the university degree to correspond with current demands in Nutrition, Food Hygiene, Dietetic and Nutrition Surveillance areas. Likewise, the study plan should prepare the would-be-professional for his/her performance on community, hospital, home and ambulatory environments; as well as to emphasize the incorporation of professional values such as ethics, honesty, responsibility and social commitment. Updated study plan will have Nutrition and Food Hygiene as leading disciplines. Among the relevant changes forecast with the implementation of this updated study plan there could be mentioned curricular assessment, greater flexibility in the organization of contents incorporated within, and the development of scientific research with curricular identity. However, a higher integration of the contents of the current study plan, and a greater disposition of the student towards the problems posed by his/her profession, is still needed.
