ABSTRACT

Introduction: It has been suggested that perimesencephalic subarachnoid hemorrhage could be caused by bleeding of venous origin.
Case report: In a 43 years old woman with a mild Subarachnoid Hemorrhage, non-contrasted CT demonstrated a clot in the left perimesencephalic cisterns, in close proximity to an area where the CT angiography showed an abnormal venous system, which consisted in the draining of the basal vein of Rosenthal toward the lateral sinus.
Conclusions: This observation supports the idea that bleeding secondary to regional increase of venous pressure is an important cause of perimesencephalic hemorrhage.
