ABSTRACT

Introduction: The heart diseases are the first cause of death in Cuba; in 2000, 20,173 persons died for that cause, and from them, 8,393 suffered Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) and 6,905 other heart ischemic diseases; so if it is achieved to diminish the incidence of the coronary disease, modifying the Coronary Risk Factors (CRF) that increase its appearance in the population, the morbimortality by this disease will be diminished. Objective: To evaluate the useful of a Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Program in a group of patients with coronary risk factors. Material and Method. A cuasiexperimental, longitudinal and prospective study is made in patients admitted in the Cardiology Unit at Faustino Perez Hernandez Educational Hospital, in Matanzas city, from January the 1rst to December 31, 2010, who had the diagnosis of AMI and presented multiple Coronary Risk Factors. A program of physical exercises was applied to them, as well as educative chats during 3 months. Results: after this time, we could observe that all the CRF studied (obesity, sedentarism, smoking habit, arterial hypertension, glicemia figures, cholesterol and triglycerides) diminished significantly. The application of this program as a secondary way of prevention, plays an important role in the decreasing of the CRF, so if we will gain the diminishing of these factors in the population, that influence in the ischemic cardiopathy, we could diminish the morbimortality for this disease, which is the principal cause of death in the world.
