ABSTRACT

Objective: To evoke some remarkable aspects of Professor Carlos Manuel Ramírez Corría life (February 24 of 1903–March 27 of 1977).
Development: Professor Carlos Manuel Ramírez Corría, the first president of Cuban Society of Neurology and Neurosurgery, generate various projects related with family, sciences, education, social development and politics. He guided Cuban neurosurgery to creep, and in 1947 it began to run with the foundation of the first neurosurgery service in the “Calixto García” Hospital. Also he promotes stereotaxic, neuroendoscopy, reduced access surgery, and models for neurosurgery training.
Conclusions: A teacher like Ramírez Corría must live between us because we repeat the anecdotes related with him and the influence in our capacity of thinking, in our perspective of life, in the way of our work.
