ABSTRACT

The case described is of a 39 years of old patient with a pregnancy in its 13th week, untreated hypertension, an obstetrics history of five pregnancies, one birth and four induced abortions. She first arrives to the hospital’s emergency department presenting lower abdominal pain and liquid loss, which is interpreted as an abortion and she is given misoprostol. The clinical findings and diagnostic strategy employed later confirm an interstitial ectopic pregnancy. This type of ectopic pregnancy, also known as a cornual pregnancy, is an infrequent form located in the portion of the fallopian tubes that crosses the uterine wall. The risk of death in these cases is doubled compared to other ectopic pregnancy sites, which is why the importance of carrying out the established diagnostic procedures is emphasized for its early detection.
