Flaccid paraparesis as a result of multiple sclerosis, cervical myelopathy and diabetic polyneuropathy

ABSTRACT

Paraparesis can be described as muscle weakness in lower limbs or disorders in voluntary movement. Recurring episodes are usually associated with multiple sclerosis, compressive injuries of the spinal cord and peripheral neuropathy. Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic neurological disorder that affects the central nervous system; it is one of the most common forms of neurological disabilities not related to neurological trauma. Clinical manifestations include episodes of focal disorders of the optic nerves, spinal cord and brain and the symptoms will depend on the location of the demyelinating spots. Alongside with cervical radiculopathy, defined as a syndrome of pain and/or motor-sensory disorder as well as compression of one or multiple cervical nerves and Diabetic neuropathy (most frequent peripheral neuropathy world wide) consist the most frequent causes of motor limitations, paraparesis being a common symptom to all three alongside other manifestations. In this case we present a clinical case of a patient who presented progressive quadriparesis, as a consequence of peripheral diabetic neuropathy, multiple sclerosis and cervical myelopathy.
