Correlation of the IGF-1 and bone mineral density in female patients major of 50 years of age

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The IGF-1 acts as mediator of the hormonal action of growth in the postnatal life, it plays a roll in the patophysiology of osteoporosis and it’s circulation’s levels are influenced by the growth hormone, insuline and endogen hormones. Objective: To determine and to correlate IGF-1 values in blood and bone mineral density. Material and methods: One hundred and twenty five patients were studied with minimum age of 50 years and maximum of 95 years with osteoporosis diagnosis in the Centro Nacional de Rehabilitación. Each patient had tests of IGF-1 determination in blood and DXA densitometry on hip and lumbar spine. Statistic analysis: Was used the determination of Pearson’s correlation coefficient and simple and multiple lineal regression’s analysis. Results: The IGF-1 had important correlation between age and bone mineral density of hip because we found a value of p of 0.001 due to the age and a Pearson’s coefficient of –0.373 and a value of p 0.008 for the bone mineral density of hip with a Pearson’s coefficient of 0.238. The lineal regression analysis between IGF-1 and mineral density gave a b coefficient of 0.0006692 to each value of IGF-1 (p = 0.008) and a constant initiated on hip’s mineral density. In the multiple lineal regression the age is a confuse variable, when is controlated modify the correlation between IGF-1 and hip’s mineral density. Conclusion: It doesn’t exist an important relation between IGF-1 and bone mineral density in valued patients.
