Frailty, dependence and social impact on elderly assisted by the Multidisciplinary Team for Geriatric Care

ABSTRACT

Among the priority programs of the National Cuban Health System is the Integrated Care for the Elderly, which provides diagnose frailty as part of the comprehensive assessment. A retrospective study to determine the behavior of the dependence and its social impact on frail elderly served by the Multidisciplinary Team for Geriatric Care at “Marta Abreu de Estévez” the University Polyclinic was performed. The following variables were analyzed: age, sex, dependency, cognitive status, emotional status, cohabitation, adverse events and main demands of basic services. A total of 110 frail elderly prevailed females and the age group 70 to 79 years; most had no cognitive impairment, they were independent and living with the spouse; the most frequent adverse events were the visits to the emergency services and falls and the most requested services were monitored by the team and the household income.
