ABSTRACT

Biographical article about Dr. Manuel Lombas García (1924 - 1978); teacher of internal medicine dedicated to the study and educations of the rheumatic illnesses, who was a person in charge of organizing the teaching in this specialty in Cuba and of beginning the training of those who at last were the first rheumatology specialists in our country; person in charge on having returned from the United States in the year 1959 with its Teaching fellow in Rheumatology reached in "Sydenham Hospital" under the guidance of the teacher Appelhaum, of inaugurating the Rheumatology National Service in the Hospital Clínico Quirúrgico Docente “10 de Octubre” after its peregrination with its educations for Calixto García, Freyre de Andrade and Enrique Cabrera hospitals. The death surprises it prematurely when he was 53 years old, April 5, 1978 in its job, at which never stop being present in spite of being sick from days earlier. By agreement of the Rheumatology Cuban Society , the Rheumatology National Group, its disciples and pupils, the order was granted him post mortem of “Teacher of the Rheumatology in Cuba“.
