ABSTRACT

It was performed a study of educational intervention where a lack of knowledge about the risks of the uterine cervical cancer was identified, the third most common cancer in women around the world. The universe was represented by all women in child-bearing age in the health area of the family doctor´s office # 11 belonging to the polyclinic 2 Ángel Ortiz Vázquez and the sample was made by 51 patients presenting risks for the disease during the period from January to September of the year 2011. The sample was surveyed before and after the intervention, the results were tabulated manually through numbers and percents obtaining from the 51 patients 16 which represented 31,37% and they were between 30 and 34 years old; 28 of them were housewives (54.90%) and 29 had primary school level (56,86 %); 27 were single (52,94%); 27 had more than 2 children for 52,94%, prevailing the early sexual intercourse (25,49); the number of sexual partners (19,60%); multiparity (21,56%) and the STI (15,68%) as the major risk factors. Before the implementation of the educational strategy 29 patients had a low awareness about the risks of uterine cervical cancer, this criterion changed after the application of the intervention where 40 patients presented a high level of knowledge about the risk factors for uterine cervical cancer. However the rate of the disease is still high, that is the reason why it is of paramount importance to maintain the educational programs to all women to prevent the disease.
