ABSTRACT

We present four patients diagnosed by means of a careful oculomotor examination as well as of the vestibulo-ocular reflex with the help of a new tool that allows to explore each of the 3 semicircular canals receptors in the inner ear. Patient 1 was diagnosed of a vestibular nerve (VN) that affects both subdivisions (superior and inferior) of the vestibular nerve; patient 2 was diagnosed of an inferior vestibular nerve neuritis; patients 3 and 4 were diagnosed of a vestibular neuritis of the superior vestibular nerve complete and partial respectively. As shown here we are able to provide a precise diagnosis at bedside of vestibular neuritis and localize the vestibular deficit in the different branches of the vestibular nerve.
