ABSTRACT

Incidence of peptic ulcer disease has declined over the past 100 years; however the recent rise in life expectancy in has managed to maintain a constant prevalence of this disease. During the past 3 decades in the US, the rise in diagnoses made in advanced ages has contributed to a larger number of hospital admissions due to complications of peptic ulcer disease. These tendencies reflect the advancements made in the eradication therapy for Helicobacter pylori and therapy directed towards prevention of peptic ulcer disease with chronic use of NSAID’s.
