ABSTRACT

Ankle valgus is an insidious deformity that may develop during childhood due to a variety of etiologies including cerebral palsy. This may be concomitant, with or mistaken for hind foot valgus. These conditions pathology alter the growth rate of the distal fibula resulting in shortening and ankle valgus. These patients have problems with the ankle foot orthotics, anti-esthetical appearance and dermal ulcers. This case report is about a 9 year 11 months old female patient with spastic cerebral infantile palsy with bilateral valgus ankle Malhotra 3, who had her fibula lengthened. With this report we try to demonstrate how the use of a fibular lengthening is a predictable method, with results that can be appreciated in an early manner with relatively few complications and that correct the deformity in its most pathological site.
