El glaucoma y su tratamiento farmacológico

ABSTRACT

Glaucoma is an ophthalmologic pathology, very important to public health. According to the World Health Organization WHO, 8 million people are blind because of glaucoma, being the third cause of blindness worldwide. Glaucoma principally affects adults older than 40 years, it's prevalence increase greatly with age and is getting higher with the longer life expectative. The intraocular pressure it’s the main risk factor, although there are cases of normal-pressure glaucoma. The first line therapy consist in lower the IOP, using daily eye drop medications, regulating the intraocular balance. This article pretends to learn more about glaucoma, its consequences and the available pharmacologic therapy now days.
