ABSTRACT

Colorectal cancer is one of the main causes of cancer related deaths in Costa Rica. It occupies the third and fourth places in cancer mortality in women and men, respectively. The risk of developing colorectal cancer is influenced by environmental and genetic factors. There are multiple screening tests available to detect early stage cancer or precancerous polyps. Evidence indicates that screening reduces colorectal cancer incidence and mortality.
