ABSTRACT

This review article is oriented towards the reader to improve knowledge about one of the most advanced, complicated and overall risky procedures in General Surgery. Whipple’s procedure or Pancreaticoduodenectomy has been performed safely for many years, and has evolved consistently, including changes in pre and postoperative management, changes in the surgical technique and changes in approach. Pancreatic anatomy, surgical technique, indications for the procedure and also the results of a study that reveals laparoscopic cases as a safe approach, will be discussed.
