Respiratory distress syndrome on adult as a complication in the course of the varicella-zoster

ABSTRACT

This is the case of a male smoker patient aged 44 to got in touch with a girl carrier of varicella who came to hospital presenting with the typical skin lesions of varicella, high and maintained fever of 39-40 ºC and acute respiratory failure. Treatment prescribed was mechanical ventilation, acyclovir, ceftriaxone and ciprofloxacin. The course was favorable with a hospital stay of 10 days in the ICU. This case wa presented due to the low frequency of the varicella complicated in apparently healthy adults. A review os this subject was conducted from some cases described in the medical literature.
