ABSTRACT

Introduction: It has being performed for two decades in México, but publications that would demonstrate the cytogenetic studies and the pregnancies development are scarce.
Objective: The purpose of this article is to show transvaginal amniocentesis as a secure option in those cases that requires an alternate approach.
Patients and method: A 27 year old female, with family background of a sibling with a Down syndrome son. Has a diagnosis of: pregnancy of 14.4 weeks of gestation by last date of period (21/11/11). Since the placenta is localized in a complete anterior position and low implantation, it is proposed and decided to perform the procedure through transvaginal way and transuterine puncture of each sac.
Conclusion: Transvaginal amniocentesis promises to be a secure, prompt and effective technique for the attainment of amniotic liquid in the second trimester.
