Socio cultural Project ¨ Crusade for life¨: the Granma volunteer movement for the prevention of HIV/ AIDS. Experiences of 10 years of work

ABSTRACTThe "Crusade for life" is an itinerant project that is presented in Granma province. It integrates volunteers of all the kinds of work in the prevention of the STD and the HIV/Aids. It is recognized by the UNESCO as a project of prevention since the cultural perspective. Its objective is to motivate the change of behavior according to the use of the condom and the acquisition of knowledge and skills that reduce the vulnerability of the population in front of the STD and HIV/ Aids. During the presentations there are used the technics of popular education, with the preparation of a script that includes games and participatory activities for the reflection, acquisition, exchange of knowledge and skills combined with cultural activities. This project is presented in municipalities, popular councils and health areas mostly exposed to the epidemy and it is encouraged and leadered by the promoters. Among its results we can mention the volunteers empowering; the transmission of the prevention message through the entertainment and the cultural and popular traditions. It has been presented in all the municipalities of the province incluiding the mountainous zones of difficult access, obtaining its periodicity like an educational sociocultural project for the prevention of the HIV/Aids of provincial scope.
