Key words:

aortic aneurism, fetal echocardiography.

ABSTRACT

A case of pregnancy is reported to have a significant aortic dilatation detected by the ultrasonographic study during the second trimester of pregnancy. The presence of an aneurysm in the ascendant aorta is confirmed in the study carried out at the 23 weeks of pregnancy. The patient decided not to continue the pregnancy after receiving cardio–genetic counseling. The necropsy exam evidenced the great aneurysmal dilatation as well as the presence of a coarctation of the associated aorta. The possible causes of aortic dilatation as a sign of congenital heart disease are commented. This is the first reported case in Cuba.
