ABSTRACT
Organ and transplantation nowadays is a common and often the only therapeutic alternative in many cases of end stage renal disease. The kidney transplant program at the Medical Unit of High Specialty Hospital Specialty Adolfo Ruiz Cortines 14th began on November 23, 1988, performing the first kidney transplant from a living donor. The first transplant from a deceased donor was performed in 2001 and the first organ donation in the hospital was conducted in 2003. From 2010 to 2013, the program has had a remarkable growth in the realization of kidney transplants, since during this period 343 transplants have been performed, of which 315 come from a living donor and 28 from a deceased donor. Our survival rates are very similar to those reported in the world literature in national and international registries of results of renal transplantation and our kidney transplant program in addition to have a high volume patient practice is also academically very active. We have established a solid foundation of a high load renal transplantation program permitting our patient access to this form of renal replacement therapy through a program that accepts referrals from a wide geographical area hope of improving the quality of life and satisfaction of a population greatly needed.REFERENCES
