ABSTRACT

Infective endocarditis is an inflammation of the parietal or valvular endocardium caused by microorganisms. We report a case of a patient with a ventriculo-atrial shunt with fever, bacteremia caused by Enterococcus faecalis for six weeks with a normal echocardiogram, the diagnosis of endocarditis was established using the Duke criteria. The treatment was initiated according to the antibiogram and externalization of the shunt was required, with satisfactory clinical response.
