On the origin of this study

In 2001, the first psycho-pedagogic, social and clinical-genetic study of disability in Cuba was carried out following the idea and instructions of comrade Fidel Castro. This study was the response to an evident concern aroused in a previous social study, where the need to deepen into the concerns of disabled people and the causes of disability was unveiled. A group of specialists had the opportunity of being protagonists of this human and important study that was initiated in Cotorro, a municipality of Havana and then expanded to the whole country. An investigation was designed with the participation of scientists, institutions, organizations and communication means.
