ABSTRACT

Accurate and fast diagnosis at the Emergency Services, is critical for decision-making and appropriate management, which in many cases will save countless lives and avoid complications in the treated pathologies. The i-Stat system that solves in seconds which previously took much longer, significantly reduces the stay periods and thus, the costs of resources (solutions, channeling, drugs, etc.) in the treatment of patients. The present work is a prospective, cross-sectional and comparative study of cost-effectiveness with patients admitted to the emergency department of the Hospital General Regional 196 of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social. In this study, the enormous progress that the i-Stat gives to the emergency medical units by reducing not only the cost of medical care, but also the morbidity and mortality, is demonstrated.
