ABSTRACT

Neonatal liver abscess associated with umbilical vein catheter (UVC) is rare and difficult clinical diagnosis so that imaging studies are essential. We report the case of a premature newborn of 35 weeks gestation with respiratory distress, installing a umbilical vein catheter. Subsequently develops tachypnea, abdominal distension, pain and progressive increase in PCR. Abdominal ultrasonography and tomography revealed solitary hepatic abscess, treated with meropenem and vancomycin for 21 days with favorable evolution.
