ABSTRACT
Objective. To know the gastroschisis incidence and to identify possible factors associated to the complications and deaths.
Design and subjects of study. Retrospective study of neonates born with gastroschisis during five years; there were 16 neonates with this malformation, among 18,702 children born in the hospital. Information was collected in regard to maternal an neonate variables and in related to the surgery of the neonates.
Results. The incident of the gastroschisis was of 8.5 for 10,000 born alive. In 15 neonates was possible to study the possible association of the variables with the risk of death in these children, without finding statistical significances.
Conclusion. The incident rate quite close to reports done by others. Differences are not significant but the risk of death in children related to the “primary surgical closing” seems better to those which were treated by the surgical closing by “silo”. Anyway the death for septic crash in children tried with silo seems to be bigger.
