ABSTRACT

Objective: To analyze our experience in follow-up and stage in rectal cancer patients with use of endorectal ultrasound.
Design: Retrospective and observational study.
Setting: Third level health care hospital.
Patients and methods: Rectal cancer patients staged preoperatively by endorectal ultrasound.
Results: We have 21 patients. All patients staged uT2N1 and more, were submitted to preoperatively radiotherapy, patients staged uT2N0 and less, were sent to surgery (10), and were compared with pathology staging. We have 70% of accuracy, 20% overestimation, and 10% underestimation. We don’t have recurrence rate, but the time of follow up is still to short.
