ABSTRACT

In recent years, orthognathic surgery has been the ideal therapeutic option for the treatment of dentofacial deformities, allowing the correction of the same techniques that have evolved over time, each one of them made with the aim of obtaining adequate correction of facial asymmetry and functional improvement of the maxillomandibular complex. The innovation of a new surgical technique is described as an ideal choice to stabilize the two segments of the maxillary bone, reducing accidents and complications of the horizontal and classical sagittal segmental maxillary osteotomy only by using a unilateral sagittal segmental maxillary osteotomy, allowing to move in block the medial segment of the maxilla with the maxillary portion of the nasal floor to a precise location and at the same time stabilize the mobile bone segment symmetrically to the stable hemimaxilla with the reposition of bone segment of the quadrangular lateral wall access of the maxilla. The unilateral sagittal segmental maxillary osteotomy was applied in five patients with unilateral transverse maxillary asymmetries using orthognathic surgery protocol established by the Service Regional Maxillofacial Surgery «General I. Zaragoza» ISSSTE in Mexico City DF obtaining excellent results.
