ABSTRACT

Wounds in the maxillofacial region represent one of the most important challenges in their treatment, not only because of the functional compromise of the structures that constitute the region but rather because of the aesthetic compromise of their repair. The facial trauma related to dog bite is considered a highly complex contaminated injury with an inoculum of multiple high specificity microorganisms according to the animal microbiota. The purpose of this study is to determine the importance of the proper management of dog bite injuries in the pediatric patient with a surgical protocol aimed at primary restoration of the affected facial structures as well as antimicrobial treatment and rabies prophylaxis required for proper local and systemic integrity of the patient.
