ABSTRACT

Objective: Knee arthrosis is one of the pathologies more frequent in our clinics. This study was carried out in the Service of Quality of Life of the National Center of Natural and Traditional Medicine from January 2009 to January 2010.
Methodos: Sample was of 60 patients, bigger than 55 years, with knee arthrosis of more than five years of evolution. They had received different treatments for their pathology obtaining no answer or only slight improvement of their clinical symptoms. The sample was divided in three groups: 1) control-patients receivedanti inflammatory drugs, 2) ozone-patients received 15 ozone intra-articular applications, twice per week, 3) ozone puncture-as group 2 but also the patients received 15 ozone puncture in the knee, 1 mL in each point, with an ozone concentration of 20 μg/ml. All patients were evaluated at the beginning, at the end and six months after finishing the treatment. It was studied the degree of clinical improvement and the minimum quantity of applications to achieve an improvement.
Results: The results obtained in groups 2 and 3 were superior in comparison with group 1 and group 3 was even superior to group 2.
Conclusions: It was concluded that the treatment with ozone puncture combined with ozone intra-articular applications is advisable for the treatment of knee arthrosis with more than 5 years of evolution.
