ABSTRACT

It was carried out a study with an observational design, descriptive of longitudinal and retrospective court to determine the magnitude and characteristic of the mortality in health workers of Arroyo Naranjo municipality in the period 2001-2010. The universe was constituted by 192 workers of the health sector. The studied variables were: age, sex, occupational category, area of health, place and death cause; rates brute were also determined and adjusted, years of life potentially lost and years of life occupationally lost. Percents, rates, averages were used. 62,5 % of the deceases was women, prevailing the age group 50-54 years in both sexes; however, the proportion of deceases men was significantly bigger; the proportion of deceases technicians (physicians and nurses) was significantly different from the rest of the occupations with 42,7 % (p=0,000); the wicked tumors occupied the first place with 40,1 %, followed by the illnesses of the circulatory system with 33,9 %; a bigger risk was shown of dying for lung cancer in both sexes; they got lost more years for wicked tumors than for the rest of the illnesses and they got lost 1 095 years of labor life.
