ABSTRACT
Introduction: It seems to be a relationship between the periodontal lesions and the state of the pulp tissue.
General objective: To define the relationship that exists between periodontal disease (periodontitis) and the presence of pulp stones.
Specific: To define the quantity of bone loss and the size of the pulp stones in each dental piece.
Method: Periapical radiographs series were evaluated. 1,080 X-rays film and 1,665 maxillary and mandibular teeth were studied.
Results: Of the 90 records, 37 (41.2%) were men and 53 (58.8%) were women. Of the 1,665 teeth reviewed, 425 (25.5%) had stones pulp. The biggest quantity of bone loss were in the inferior arcach with 199 (46%), with an average of 4 mm of horizontal bone lost.
Conclusions: There is a relationship between periodontal disease and pulp stone formation.
