ABSTRACT

The prevalecence and severity of gingival inflammation (gingivitis) indicates that this disease begins at 5 years old, the highest prevalecence is at puberty. Due to this it was determined the prevalecence of gingivitis in 1,263 adolescent students from 13 to 17 years old studding the 2nd grade of junior high public schools. Ramfjord index was used. It was carried-on a descriptive and transversal study. According to the Ramfjord index. The gingival margin of teeth 16, 21, 24, 36, 41, 44 were observed and qualified in the seleccionated population. In the gingival examination it was founded that 55.9% presented gingival health and the 44% presented different stages of gingivitis. Of the last 80.9% presented mild gingivitis, 16.5% moderate gingivitis and 2.5% severe gingivitis. According to disease gender women presented 41% of gingivitis and men 47.7%. The average of disease varies according to the economic area where they lived. The low middle class (54.6% disease people), middle class (45.6%) and high middle class (27%) we suggest the need to maintain different measurements to foment healthness and specific protection which will allow healthy people to continue in this conditions and allow that diseased population return to health specially in this last group that has the risk to get a periodontal disease an consequently to lost the teeth.
