ABSTRACT

An observational, descriptive, retrospective and cross-sectional study of 42 patients with corneal wounds, assisted in the Ophthalmology Service of "Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso" Teaching General Hospital in Santiago de Cuba was carried out from August, 2012 to the same period of 2013, with the aim of characterizing them clinically, epidemiologically and from their clinical course point of view. This affection had higher frequency in the young adult of the male sex with the diagnosis of perforating wounds, most of them had surgical treatment. The visual acuity before the surgical intervention was below 0.1 and after this, it was 0.3 to 1.0. The traumatic cataract turned out to be the predominant complication and most of the patients had a satisfactory clinical course.
